Welcome to summertime! As you are more than aware by the scorching temperatures, it is pretty hot outside. This means you and your family will be drinking A LOT more water and it would be nice if it didn't leave a nasty taste in your mouth.
Your family’s health is important to you, and you want to do everything you can to promote good health in your home. One of the ways to do that is to get them to drink more water. “But the water doesn’t taste good,” you may hear from the kids. Thankfully, there are a few tricks to get better tasting water.
1. Add a Carbon Filter
Filters are a must have for better tasting water. Carbon filters remove water and taste, while sediment filters remove floating particles in the water.
According to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a carbon filter is the only recommended treatment for all 32 chemical contaminants, 14 pesticides, and 12 herbicides found in chlorinated tap water.
Carbon has long been used to filter and maintain water. The Egyptians first recognized this use when they stored water in charcoal. Since then, carbon has been a standard component in water treatment.
2. Get a Water Softener
Hard water is common in the Phoenix area. An overabundance of minerals in the water cause the pure water molecules to be heavier and harder. The two big causes for hard water are the minerals calcium and magnesium. One sure-fire way to get better tasting water is to install a water softener to remove these minerals. This simple device removes the majority of excess minerals and leaves water to be nearly tasteless.
But that’s not all a water softener can do for your home. You’ll spend a whole lot less time cleaning as well because it removes calcium from your tap water. You’ll have spot-free dishes out of the dishwasher, no soap scum, and lime scale will be a thing of the past. Plus, your pipes won’t suffer from scale buildup, helping them to last longer and run faster.
3. Install a Reverse Osmosis System
Reverse osmosis is used to make the bottled water you buy at the store. That’s because it’s the most effective technology known to produce better tasting water.
A reverse osmosis system forces tap water through a semi-permeable membrane (a filter), which pulls out the particles and unwanted substances that are causing your water to taste bad. The process removes nearly 90% of pesticides, herbicides, and chemicals.
