Common Heat Pump Repairs

The heater has many moving parts that, if left to run without inspection or residential heater maintenance, will cause the system to break down.

Broken reversing valve. In the summer, the heat pump vents hot air outside and cools air inside. In the winter, it’s reversed with the hot air going into the home and cool air venting outside. If your unit is stuck in one mode, it’s possible the reversing valve is broken and needs to be repaired or replaced.
Low refrigerant. When refrigerant is low the amount of energy the unit produces is decreased. Your home won’t heat (or cool) to the temperature that’s set. There may be a leak that needs to be sealed and refrigerant replaced; this should be done by a licensed professional like Forrest Anderson.
Heat pump is smoking. What you’re seeing isn’t smoke; it’s actually steam caused by defrosting. It’s rare for this to happen in Phoenix so if you see it happening frequently, give us a call.
