Signs you need bathroom plumbing repair

Plumbing is one of those things inside a home that most people don’t think about until something goes wrong. You wash your hands, take a shower, do laundry, and run the dishwasher. When you need a bathroom plumbing repair, it becomes clear how much you rely on the simple luxuries that plumbing offers.

Many bathroom plumbing issues are best left to a professional. These are just a few signs you should be looking for in your home that may alert you if a bathroom plumbing repair is needed.

Frozen Pipes

It’s still pretty hot in the Valley. However, as our temperatures drop below freezing on a few chilly nights this winter, you may have to think about frozen pipes. Some signs of frozen pipes include clanking, low or no water flow, a strange odor, and visible moisture or frost on pipes. A frozen pipe needs immediate attention. Call an emergency plumber right away!

Gurgling Noises

Whether you are running the dishwasher, taking a shower, or flushing the toilet, if you hear gurgling it could be a sign of a clogged drain. If you hear that sound, it means air is going in or out of the pipes. The fix could be as simple as plunging a clogged toilet. However, if the problem persists, you should call a trusted plumber.

Running Water Sound

If you hear the sound of running water through your pipes when no one is using water, this may be a sign that something is wrong. The sound may mean there’s a leak somewhere in your pipes.

If the running water sound is coming from your toilet, you may need to replace the flapper. For some, this is a DIY project; however, if you aren’t comfortable doing it yourself, call a plumber. If you hear a hissing noise after flushing the toilet, it may mean there is a leak between your tank and your toilet bowl. The fix can be as simple as adjusting the float. A plumber can inspect your toilet. If the float can’t be repaired, they may need to replace the entire fill valve.

Low Water Pressure

Some homes have low water pressure. However, if you used to have strong water pressure and it has recently changed, you may have an issue. Sometimes, simply cleaning the aerator can help improve water pressure from faucets. However, if that doesn’t help, it could be a more complex issue that will call for a bathroom plumbing repair. More serious problems may include a fractured pipe, a water leak, or an eroded waterline.

Slow Draining

If your kitchen or bathroom sink is taking a little longer than usual to drain, it’s in your best interest to call a company for a bathroom plumbing repair. Regularly cleaning hair and other debris from your drains can help prevent build-up and minor clogs.

Unusual Odors

Anytime you smell gas you should be on alert. Usually, the “gas” is a sulfur odor that may smell like rotten eggs. If you think you smell gas you should:

  • Open the windows

  • Turn off lights, appliances, and anything that could ignite a gas explosion

  • Get out of your house!

  • Call your utility company to have them check for gas

  • Stay out of your home until it’s been cleared by the inspector

If the inspector determines the smell wasn’t gas, you should contact a plumber to help you determine what is causing the smell. You should address vent or sewer pipe issues as soon as possible. There are several causes including damaged drain pipes, clogged drains, or even a worn toilet ring.
