Save Water This Summer With These 10 Tips

Water is a limited resource but we use it as if it will never run out. Living in the desert should make us more aware but technology makes it possible for us to get our water from other places. We forget that we could be left thirsty on our un-watered lawns.

Conserve water so we have it for a long time with these water saving tips.

1. Install a low flow showerhead. While it’s an upfront cost, you will be using about half the water of a conventional showerhead, saving water and money!

2. Take shorter showers. The average shower uses five gallons of water each minute which means a 10 minute shower uses 50 gallons of water. If you like hot showers, you’re also using energy to heat the water. Be kind to the environment by taking shorter cooler showers.

3. Turn the water off when you brush your teeth or shave.

4. Use two sinks when doing dishes by hand.

5. Fill one with soapy water and the other with clean, non-soapy water.

6. Wash, rinse, repeat. Even if you have to refill, you’re using less than if you leave the faucet running.

7. Cut down on dirty dishes by reusing water glasses or using a refillable water bottle. Use energy star rated low water use dishwasher and clothes washer to conserve electricity and water.

8. Wash dark colored clothes in cold water. It saves energy and your clothes will keep their color longer.

9. Check your toilet for leaks by putting food coloring in the tank. If you see color in the toilet, you’ve got a leak.

10. Call Forrest Anderson to fix the leak and start saving water. If your toilet was installed prior to 1992, it’s time for a new one that uses water more conservatively. Put a bucket in the shower to catch the water while it’s warming up. Use it to water plants and the lawn.
