A heat pump is part of your central heating and cooling system, and despite its name, it uses outside air to both heat and cool the interior of a building.

In the summer, it moves hot air out of the building to keep the vicinity cool, while in the winter, it pulls in outside warm air to heat up the inside.

A commercial heat pump is an excellent way to not only regulate building temperatures but to conserve energy. That’s because it moves the air and doesn’t generate heat, plus it runs on electricity, which reduces fuel consumption.

This can be a huge benefit in the commercial space where buildings are much bigger and heating and air conditioning costs can skyrocket quickly.

During the regular check-ups, your Forrest Anderson Commercial Services technician will:

• Inspect all aspects of the pump, including ducts, filters, blower, and coil for dirt or other obstructions to proper usage.

• Identify and seal any leaks.

• Ensure that the airflow is adequate by measuring output.

• Verify correct refrigerant charge and inspect for any refrigerant leaks.

• Inspect electrical terminals to identify and remedy any loose connections as well as apply nonconductive coating as necessary.

• Lubricate motors and inspect belts for tightness and wear.

• Verify that the thermostat is operating correctly.

• Ensure that heat is locked out when the thermostat requires cooling and vice versa.
   

In addition to your annual checkup, there are things you can be doing on a regular basis to ensure that your commercial heat pump is well maintained.

First, be sure to change the filter each month and clean the system as needed. Dirty filters, fans, and coils reduce airflow through the system, which reduces efficiency and can make as much as a 25% difference in energy consumption.

​

Dirt and debris can cause the pump to work harder—and break faster. Take a regular walk around the unit to clear debris and look for anything out of the ordinary. Naturally, if you hear any strange sounds emanating from the pump, call a technician immediately.
